Location: Elevated at a height of 2224 feet above sea level, Sri Sathya Sai Ashram is the spot from where Sathya Sai Baba used to give daily darshan to his devotees.
Description: Puttaparthi is adored all over the world as the birthplace of the great avatar, Lord Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Prasanthi Nilayam or Sri Sathya Sai Ashram is the place where Sri Sathya Sai Baba spent much time of his life. Prasanthi Ashram has a beautiful meaning, the “Abode of highest peace”. As the name suggests, the ashram has tranquil environment and is considered as one of the best places for meditation. Commonly known as Old Mandir, Sri Sathya Sai Ashram was inaugurated on 2 November, 1950, on twenty fourth birthday of Sathya Sai Baba. Blue, yellow and pink colors used in the ashram represent harmony of spirit, intellect and heart, respectively. This ashram is so huge that it can accommodate about twenty thousand people at a time. It also houses educational institutions, stadiums, museums and hospitals dedicated to the service of devotees.
Activities: Besides Prasanthi Ashram, you may also visit Ganesh Mandir, Subramanya Mandir and Gayatri Mandir located nearby. Before visiting the Ashram, visitors are recommended to wear clean and sober clothes as per the rules.
