Built with red sandstone, the Agra Fort is also known as Red Fort and was built under the rule of Akbar, a Mughal emperor. Situated at the banks of river Yamuna, this fort was a military establishment during its initial period but many changes were made later on by different Mughal rulers.
Beautiful architecture of the Mughal era can be seen in this fort as it houses Moti Masjid, Diwan-i-Am, Diwan-i-Khas, Pearl Mosque, Khas Mahal and Jahangir’s Palace. The exquisitely carved paintings are a delight to watch. Bordered by 70 foot tall wall, this fort is semi circular in shape and has 4 doors, one of which faces the river.
This fort has witnessed various battles that were fought by different rulers but it still stands strong. Therefore this stunning and beautiful fort that provides an interesting glimpse of the Hindu and Muslim architecture is sure to leave its visitors spell bound.
