The most colorful and significant boat race in Kerala is the Nehru Trophy Snake Boat Race which is named after the first prime minister of free India Jawaharlal Nehru and is held at Punnamada. This event is famous worldwide and is arranged every year in the month of August. Different sized boats compete with each other in various events that are organized here.
People from all over the country participate in this race with much enthusiasm and the winner is presented with a trophy that is in the shape of a silver snake boat and is mounted on a wooden base.
