Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is regarded as a paradise for bird lovers. Expanding over an area of 14 acres, this sanctuary houses a large variety of birds that can be seen at any time of the day. Various birds that migrate from different places, such as Siberia, can also be observed here. Some birds that can be seen all around the year are Kingfishers, Egrets, golden backed woodpeckers and many more.
In an effort to conserve the natural habitat of different species of birds and plants, this Sanctuary was established by the government of India. A boat trip around the island is the best way to watch the bird dwelling in this area. Around 180 birds can be seen here, as this place is also known as Vembanad Bird Sanctuary. The closeness of this sanctuary to the largest lake of Kerala contributes to the abundant flora.
