Location: Sri Mariamman Temple is a religious destination that lies on the top of the Elk Hill, one of the most popular hills present in the amazing town of Ooty.
Description: Sri Mariamman Temple is dedicated to Mariamman, the rain goddess. This temple has an interesting story behind its construction. According to the legends, it is believed that every Tuesday merchants from Coimbatore used to come to the region to carry out trade activities with the local residents. One day, two sisters came to the region and asked for a place to stay. The residents asked them to stay under the tree. Suddenly, with a flash of lightening the sisters disappeared and it was only after this that people came to know that the sisters were goddesses. Therefore the local residents constructed a temple for Goddess Mariamman and Kaliamman at one place, which is till date famous as Sri Mariamman temple. Even today the two goddesses are worshiped by the merchants, who come to this place for trade.
Activities: Ever year various festive celebrations are carried out in order to honor the goddesses. Tourists can visit the temple during any time, in order to pray and seek the blessings of the goddesses.
