Situated on a gentle slope starting from Kabi to Phodong, Phensong Monastery is an eminent pious place in the northern region of Indian state, Sikkim. Due to its location, it can easily reached by local transport from Mangan. The soothing environs and picturesque beauty of the monastery attract thousands of tourists and devotees all round the year.
Built in 1721, under the reign of Jigme Pawo, the monastery withholds the Nyingmapa order of the Tibetan and Buddhism architecture, which had around 300 monks residing in its premises. Unfortunately in the year 1947, the Phensong Monastery was destroyed by fire, which completely ruined the charm and charisma of this monastery. However, later the monks decided to put in some efforts and rebuild the structure, which proved out to be successful in 1948 and today the monastery present among magnificent hills, is known for its beautiful sites and the mesmerizing landscape. You can enjoy being a part of annual festival held in the month of December, which is celebrated in the monastery complex with full enchantment.
