Lying 31km from east of Gangtok, in the Indian state of Sikkim is the famous Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary. It extends from the famous ridges adjoining Tsomgo and RongChu lakes extending to the police check post and covering approximately an area of about 31sq km.
Elevated at a height of 3292 m to 4116 m, this sanctuary is a perfect tourist destination. You can enjoy sightseeing and the diverse assortment of various species of herbs, shrubs, trees and wildlife. Adding to its natural splendor, you can see a rich vegetation of rhododendron, silver fir, tall juniper, orchids, gentians, premolars and strawberries, while various medicinal herbs namely Kutki, Nilo Bikh and Jiamusi, amongst other can be found in this sanctuary. For those who like adventure activities, Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary is a perfect place for enjoying trekking in its dense forest.
For nature lovers, this sanctuary houses a huge variety of commonly seen wild animals including Blood Pheasant, Leopard, Black Bear, Musk Deer, Langur, Himalayan Marmot and varied kinds of birds which include both, migratory and residential birds.
