Tambdi Surla Temple

Regarded as the most ancient temple in Goa, Tambdi Surla Temple is located at a distance of 65 km from the capital of Goa, Panaji. Built in 12th century, this temple boasts of Jain architectural style. When compared to other shrines of the city, this temple is smaller in size and is not easily accessible. The top part of this beautifully designed temple still remains incomplete.

Built from weather resistant, finest grey black basalt, this temple was constructed by the rulers of Kadamba dynasty who ruled Goa from the 10th century till 14th century. Interiors as well as exteriors of the shrine are beautifully carved.

The main deity of this perfectly proportioned and exquisitely carved temple is Lord Shiva. Even after Portuguese persecution and Muslim invasions this shrine still stands tall. Situated in a remote location at the base of Western Ghats, this temple makes a perfect location to relax.
