Shantadurga Temple, Goa

Shantadurga Temple

Goa is considered to be a treasure house of beauty and the charm of this place gets accentuated by the presence of shrines dedicated to different gods and goddesses. The temple named Shantadurga, situated in dense forests, provides a calm picture to the travelers. It is situated at a distance of 33 kilometers from Panaji, the capital city of Goa. This temple has vast fields of paddy in the front.

Shantadurga Temple is considered as a blend of two architectural styles; first is Indian and the second one is the Portuguese. The interiors are carved marvelously with glass chandeliers and marbles, along with artistically designed silver work devoted to the Deity. The temple consists of idols of Devi Shantadurga, while idols of Mahadev and Vishnu are kept on either side of the Devi. A procession or Jatra for eight days is carried out on wooden chariots and this procession is worth a watch.
