Named after the legend of Lord Rama, who, as mythology states, came here along with his wife Sita while they were exiled from the Kingdom of Ayodhya, this fort is among the oldest beach forts of Goa which were built even before the Portuguese settlers landed here. Tourists can travel to this beach fortress situated in the Canacona District which lies 25 km away from the city of Margao. This fort has a very rich history, with the Portuguese settlers acquiring it after the defeat of the Kind of Soonda. This fort then changed ownership with the numerous rulers who then annexed this fortress. Tourists who are planning for a more historically enlightening vacation here are sure to be pleased with the detailing of the structure as well as the various artifacts here, which are a testament to the times it has seen. Standing atop some of the most beautiful cliffs in the state, this attraction is certainly not one to be missed.
