Hampi is divided essentially into two parts, which stand at a distance of 3 kilometers from each other - the Sacred Center, which holds the religious sites, and the Royal Center which encloses the royal buildings.
The stone walled enclosures found in the Royal Center are markedly different from other regions, featuring huge, curved boulders to create brilliantly engineered walls.
The Royal enclosures hold the Lotus or Zenana Enclosure and the Elephant Stables. The Zenana Enclosure is a beautiful, delicately designed pavilion inside a well-protected compound meant for royal women. Some of the most interesting Hampi temples are also found here, along with an underground temple and a Queen's Bath, which is said to be constructed secretly.
