Situated along the banks of Osman Sagar in Hyderabad, Chilkur Balaji Temple is one of the most prominent Hindu shrines. It is a 33km ride from the main city. Dedicated to Lord Balaji, the temple is frequently visited by around 75,000 to 100,000 tourists, who come here to offer prayers from different corners of the world. Generally, the temple remains crowded on Fridays and Sundays.
Presently the temple is looked after by the families of trustees, late Sri C.S. Gopala Krishna and Sri M.V. Soundara Rajan. A major attraction of this shrine, besides its beautiful architecture and figurines of gods and goddesses is that it does not accept any money and no special entries are provided to the VIPs. Positioned in peaceful and fine-looking surroundings, the temple is around 500 years old. For nature lovers this place is a retreat and gives them the feeling of gratification and purity.
