A famous art museum, Salar Jung Museum lies on the southern bank of the river Musi. One of the three national museums of the country, this place is famous for keeping a huge collection of paintings, sculptures, manuscripts, metallic artifacts, carvings and textiles.
The items displayed in the museum were sourced from Salar Jung’s family property. Having a huge collection of antiques, this place offers a wonderful experience to the people who have interest in ancient things. It is believed that only one half of the original collection is present, as Salar Jung staff has siphoned off most part of the collection.
Established in the year 1951, this museum is under the care of the government of India. This museum was announced as an “Institute of National Importance” along with its in-house library. The antiques that are present at this place have been collected from different civilizations dating back to 1st century.
