Birla Planetarium

Lying in proximity to Birla Mandi is the renowned Birla Planetarium in Hyderabad. Its huge dome resembles the famous Gol Gumbaz of Bijapur and some of the other eminent structures in New Delhi. It was inaugurated in the year 1985 on 8th of September.

Constructed by Mr. P. A. Singaravelu, a renowned civil engineer, the Birla Planetarium is a well known Indian Science Museum and is one of the prestigious institutions for R&D and Higher education in India. It was built with the idea of popularizing recent technologies and organizing several innovative programs.

The planetarium comprises of a museum, art gallery as well a science center. Amongst which the major attraction among kids and adults are the theatrical shows that explore the mysteries and origins of comets, eclipses, universe and unknown flying objects, through 3D movies. It also houses a dinosaur egg fossil. However, the major highlight is the remains of a 160 year old dinosaur, well known as ‘Kotasurus Yamanpalliensis’.
