Location: Amongst the largest forts of the world, Jaisalmer Fort is located at Jaisalmer, in Rajasthan. Jaisalmer Fort or Sonar Kila, its alternate name, is situated amidst the Great Indian Desert at the mighty Trikuta hills.
Description: Established by Jaisal, a well known Rajput ruler, this fort was constructed in the year 1156. Three walls adorn this palace out of which the outermost wall is constructed by stone blocks and is the strongest of all walls. Next is the second wall that covers the fort from the enemies and the innermost wall was used to throw boiling water as well as oil at the enemies. Even after witnessing a number of battles, this fortress still stands strong. An exquisite monument, Jaisalmer Fort was built using sandstone that changes its color with the sun rise and sunset. During the day time, the palace looks beautiful with yellowish brown color while at the sun set it changes its color to appealing honey gold.
