Description: Constructed in the 18th and the 19th century, Havelis are big mansions build out of yellow sand stone by wealthy merchants. These mansions can be considered as an example of the Rajput style of architecture, as well as of the Islamic architectural style.
Residents of these exquisitely designed Havelis were the landlords and wazirs. Two of the most famous Havelis of the region are the Patwon ki Haveli and the Salim Singh ki Haveli. While the former mansion was constructed by a famous Jain merchant, Guman Chand Patwa, latter was built by Salim Singh, the then prime minister. These Havelis are painted marvelously and are covered with impressive carvings.
