Location: Balsamad Lake is a famous lake in Jodhpur and serves as a well known picnic spot. This lake is situated at a distance of seven kilometers from the centre of Jodhpur city.
Description: This is an artificial lake and was built in the year 1159 and the main objective behind building this lake was to serve as a water reservoir, in order to supply water to the Jodhpur city. Balsamad Lake is around 1 kilometer long, 50 meters broad and has a depth of around 15 meters. The lake is enclosed by 300 acres of abundantly green gardens and these gardens serve as a house for different varieties of trees, like plum, guava, pomegranate, mango etc. Various species of birds and animals also dwell here, for example peacock and Jackal.
Very close to the lake there is a very impressive palace of this region, named as Bal Samand lake palace. Bal Samand Lake palace now serves as a heritage hotel, with word class lodging facilities, besides serving food of great quality. From the hotel one can have an extensive view of the entire region.
