Location: Mehrangarh Fort is considered to be one of the most impressive and largest forts in the Indian subcontinent. It is positioned on a hill, and is at a distance of five kilometers from Jodhpur city. This fort presents the glory and charm of the era when Rajas and Maharajas were in existence.
Description: The construction of this fort started in the year 1459 by Rao Jodha who is considered to be the founder of Jodhpur. Unfortunately he could not see its completion in his life time. Raja Jaswant Singh was the person who completed this fort and the completion was done in second half of the 17th century. Walls of this fort are 36 meters high and 21 meters wide. You can witness a number of palaces in this fort. Moti Mahal, a palace in this fort, contains Jodhpur’s royal throne, named as Sringar Chowki. This fort also has numerous temples and galleries. Left side of this fort has a Chhatri of soldier Kirat Singh Soda. Chhatri is said to be the spot where he had fallen while defending the Mehrangarh Fort from the troops of Amer. The imposing structure and magnificent design of the fort looks really amazing when viewed from the city.
