Vindhyachal - A holy center
Vindhyachal is Shaktipeeth of India and is situated on the banks of the Ganges, the holy river. As per Hindu mythology, it is believed to be the house of Goddess Durga. Legends hold that goddess Durga chose it as the place for her incarnation after killing Mahishasura.
During early times, a lot of temples and monuments were built in Vindhyanchal and majority of them were destroyed at the time of the rule of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. But some of those structures that survived still exist.
Vindhyanchal is a religious center for Hindus and is situated in the district of Mirzapur which is famous for many beautiful structures of the Victorian age. The natural beauty and calm environment are also an attractive factor for tourists. Also, apart from its captivating scenic beauty the place of Vindhyanchal has a dense widespread green forest that promotes tourism & attracts tourists to this place.
There are many attractive sites located around this place, namely the Sita Kund, which is dedicated to Sita. Kalikoh temple, which is a shrine dedicated to goddess Kali, is a not to miss attraction. Also Rameshwar Mahadev temple and the Ashtabhuja Devi temple dedicated to goddess Ashtbhuja, who was Yashoda’s daughter, are also amongst major tourist attractions.
The goddess of Vindhyachal also has the Vindhyavasini Devi Temple dedicated to honor her. The festival or the Vindhyavasini Jyanti Samaaroh is also held in the city of Vindhyanchal to celebrate the birthday of Vindhyavasini, the goddess who is worshipped in Vindhyavasni Devi Temple.
