Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh is a state in northern India. It shares its borders with the Indian states of Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and the neighboring country of Nepal. It is the most populous state in India and area wise it ranks as the fifth largest. Lucknow is the state capital of Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh has rich flora which comprise of all kinds of plants. Forest land covers almost 12 percent of the area of Uttar Pradesh. Most common types of forests are tropical moist deciduous forests found mostly in Terai. Other types of forests are tropical dry deciduous forests, tropical thorny forests.

Uttar Pradesh has a treasure of wild life. Avifauna of this state ranks number one in the country. Most common birds found in this state are pigeon, crow, dove, jungle fowl, parakeet, kite, myna, quail, bulbul,   black partridge, house sparrow, peafowl, blue jay, woodpecker etc. Some of the reptiles found in this region are Crocodile, Lizard, Krait, Cobra, Dhaman etc. Some of the fish varieties are Parthan, Mahaser, Saul, Cuchia, Tengan etc.

Climate in Uttar Pradesh is tropical monsoon type. Winters are from November to February, the atmosphere remains cool and the lowest temperature recorded is 3 degree Celsius. Summers are from March to June. Entire U.P experiences heat waves and temperature soars high up to even more than 45 degree c Celsius.  June up to September constitute the monsoon months. Average annual rainfall is 990mm.

Famous tourist attractions in the state are Agra, Kumb Mela (Allahabad), Hindu religious sites: Varanasi, Mathura-Vrindavan, Ayodhya; Buddhist religious sites: Sarnath, Kushinagar, Kaushambi, Sankassa, and Sravati.
