Tirunelveli- Amalgamation of wonders

Sited in Tamil Nadu, Tirunelveli is a renowned tourist attraction of this region. Known by the name Nellai and Tinnevelly during the reign of Britishers, it is renowned for its sacred sites, natural beauty and affluent legacy. The most amazing thing about this place is its different geographical features. Located at the Southern tip of India; it includes 5 geographical territories which are mountains, fields, coastal, forests and deserts. The location of Tirunelveli is just ideal for wind farming. Power companies that concentrate on this segment have hoarded at the outskirts of this region.

Having a large number of temples, it has some of the ancient temples of the state. Most important among all is the Nellaoappar temple, which is the largest Shiva temple of Tamil Nadu. The Chariot housed in this temple is third largest in Tamil Nadu and it weighs around 400 tons. The astonishing architecture, 100 pillar hallway and stunning gardens are the main attractions of this temple.

Next in the list is the Vettuvan Koil. A rock cut temple, it is dedicated to Lord Murugan. Mundanthurai-Kalakad Wildlife Sanctuary is also a must visit place.  Sprawling an area of 817 sq km, it is the abode of some diverse animal species, like Nilgiri Langur, spotted deer, mongoose, lion tailed macaque and many other macaques. It is a place of perilous reptiles also; King Cobra and crocodiles can be seen commonly here. Tirunelveli is also a tremendous place for watching rare birds.

Some other places to see in and around this area are District Science center, Venkatachalapathy temple, Kappal Matha Church, Sivasailam temple and Maruthur.
