A fast emerging tourist destination, Shivanasamundram is situated in Karnataka Bangalore. Shivanasamundram, which stands for “Shiva’s Sea”, is an attractive island town that is located on the Cauvery River. This small picturesque calm town has a number of wonderful sights that are waiting to be explored.
River Cauvery on its way through the ravines and rocky beds of the Deccan plateau splits into two streams, known as the Bharachukki and Gaganachukki, when it reaches Shivanasamundra. While the former waterfall lies towards the eastern part of the cliff, latter waterfall is located on the western part. Asia’s first hydro electric power station which was set up in the year 1902 at the Gaganachukki waterfall is still functional till date.
From the watch tower, which is located in the city, beautiful view of the Gaganachukki falls can be experienced. The location that lies between these waterfalls makes up for a great picnic spot. The appealing view of the surrounding region holds the attraction of the travelers, while they enjoy fishing in these falls.
Apart from the waterfalls, people can also enjoy visiting various temples to seek lord’s blessings. The well known Ranganatha temple, which is dedicated to lord Ranganatha, is constructed according to Dravidian architectural style. An interesting statue of Takshaka, lord of serpents, also adorns this temple. Some other famous religious attractions are Maruleshwara Temple, Arkeshwara Temple and the Bhagawan Bahubali Statue.
So plan a trip at the earliest to enjoy the splendid beauty of the region with your friends or family members.
