SANCHI- City of Enchanting Monuments
A quaint hamlet, Sanchi, which is located in Madhya Pradesh, is famous for housing a large number of Buddhist stupas and monuments. Built across 3rd century BC to 12th century AD, various holy shrines, stupas, pillars and monasteries are present in this city. This city is also known for a true love story of a girl named Devi, who was a pious follower of Buddhism. King Asoka fell for this girl and it was on her insistence that the king constructed such wonderful monuments which were dedicated to Buddha. It was in the year 1818 that this city was rediscovered.
