A small town in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, Mantralayam is the original abode of Sri Raghavendra Swami Brindavan. Sited on the banks of river Tungabhadra, Mantralayam turned into a renowned pilgrimage centre where a large number of devotees gather to get a glimpse of the Brindavan of this saint. Mantralayam was formerly known as Manchala. As per the popular myths, Sri Guru Raghavendra Swami got this village through the blessings of Manchallamma, a village deity.
Even these days it is believed that if you worship Guru Raghavendra Swami with all your heart and narrate the verses written in his respect, he will fulfill all your desires. Thus, today this small town has turned out to be a consecrated place for Sri Raghavendra Swami's Brindavan aficionados.
Some of the other places of interest in Mantralayam are Sri Gurusarvabhuma Vidya Peetham, a Sanskrit college located at the back of Sri Raghavendra Brindavan. On the other side of the temple, there is a Manchallamma Temple, which is generally visited before going to Sri Raghavendra Brindavan. There is another temple of Sri Venkateshwara at the heart of Mantralayam Campus that is thought to be sanctified by Raghavendra Swami. There is also a massive Shiva Lingam in the centre of river Tungabhadra which leaves visitors spellbound with its sheer charm.
Mantralayam is superlatively placed in secluded surroundings on the banks of the River Tungabhadra. The presence of so many temples makes this a popular holy destination of India.
