THE PRINCESS OF THE HILLS - KODAIKANAL

Known as the Princess of hill stations, Kodaikanal is situated about 7,200 feet above the sea level and is an extremely popular tourist spot in South India. In the local language, Kodaikanal means the gift of the forest.  And it is aptly named, for Kodaikanal holds dense evergreen forests along with huge rocks in the wilderness, beautiful cascading waterfalls, making it an ideal holiday spot. Also famous are the eucalyptus oil, exotic homemade chocolates, and fruits like plums and pears. Another exciting tourist attraction is the bloom of the famous kurinji flowers, which blossom only once in twelve years. The entire landscape becomes a carpet of mesmerizing blue-purple flowers. Internationally renowned educational institutes like the Kodaikanal International school, Kodaikanal Christian College and the Mother Theresa University, India’s one and only women’s university, are all located in Kodaikanal. Apart from the regular sightseeing spots, Kodaikanal also offers horse riding, boating, trekking and other adventurous outdoor activities. Heavily influenced by the Christian culture, there are exquisitely carved sculptures found in the churches, which are certainly worth a visit. The local cuisine will satiate all types of palates.
