Explore pristine panoramic beauty of Bandipur National Park weekend Getaways
Bandipur is a magnificent wildlife tourist spot, which was founded in 1931 and is located in the district of Chamarajanagar, situated in the Nilgiris and is under Nilgiri Biosphere reserve. The place is bordered by three rivers, namely Kabini, Moyar and Nugu. Apart from the rivers, the Bandipur wildlife center is the place with many seasonal streams which flow through the area. The Bandipur wildlife center is also accredited to be the first Biosphere Reserve of the country.
Bandipur is the preferred location, which is chosen by the Govt. of India for Project Tiger. The motive behind Project tiger is to safeguard the endangered species. There has been an increase in the count of tigers, after being opted as Project Tiger site. The region has a wide open forest space which facilitates the scope for tourists to see the animals. There are other animals, like elephants, Hornbill, Sambar, Wild Dog, Giant Squirrel, Deer, and Partridges, which could be seen at Bandipur. Bandipur is the home for many endangered species, which are hardly visible elsewhere, such as Four Horned Antelope, Panther, Sloth Bear, Python, Mouse Deer, Pea Fowl and many more. Tourists can also view various striking trees, like Bamboo, Sandalwood, Teak, Honne and Mathi, apart from catching a glimpse of the animals.
Waynad Sanctuary and Mudumalai Sanctuary are the two wildlife sanctuaries which are attached with Bandipur. There are 200 villages, which are nestled around the area but inside the reserve there is no scope for human settlement. The place serves to be a spectacular destination away from the noisy cities and you can experience the tremendous amount of natural beauty which is hardly visible in the cities due to urbanization.
