Alibag- A weekend destination
The perfect merger of sun, marine life and history makes Alibag a popular destination for the people of Mumbai. Located at a distance of around 30km from Mumbai in Raigadh district, it has a strong history, as it was an important naval base during the times of Maratha King, Shivaji.
A combination of two words, Ali and Bagh, it literally means the garden of Ali. A popular weekend destination, it is also a famous centre for business conferences. The city is full of farms and cottages, which are just a few hundred meters away from the sea shore. Being surrounded by sea on three sides, Alibag is also called the Goa of Maharashtra.
Settled in the lap of nature, Alibag is a marine town of India. The town is prominent for its crystal clean water, spectacular beaches and fresh air. Alibag is an amazingly gorgeous place and one can see the beauty of nature at its best here.
Alibag has a number of things to offer. Kulaba Fort in the town is eminent for its architectural magnificence and was constructed by late Maratha King, Chhatrapati Shivaji. This fort unswervingly overlooks the settlement whilst also facing the sea. The beaches in and around this town are also a popular tourist draw. Alibag Beach is ideal for a boulevard or a leisurely walk with your loved one. Some of the other popular beaches are Varsoli Beach, Korlai Beach, Akshi Beach, Kihim-Nagaon Beach and Thal Beach. A perfect destination for those who want to visit religious destinations, Kaneshwar Mandir is situated around 13 km away from Alibag.
Clean beaches, calm sea and country homes located just a step away from the shoreline are some of the ideas for a perfect holiday and Alibag has it all.
