Devoted to the Goddess of power Patal Bhairav, this astonishing temple has a legendary story behind it. As per the Hindu Mythology, a selfish demon, Bhairav Nath chased a young girl Vaishno Devi, who was the embodiment of Mother Goddess. To run away from the mischievous beast, Devi shot an arrow into the Earth from where water streamed out and then Devi took a refuge under a cave.
On being discovered by Bhairav, Devi took the form of Mahakal, and killed the demon. During his last breath Bhairav pleaded for forgiveness. Devi granted him Moksha, and also gave the boon that every devotee has to visit the temple of Bhairav Nath near the holy cave, after the Darshan of the goddess, in order to complete their pilgrimage.
