Once the residence of a well known Tamil patriot and poet Subramanya Bharathi this place was converted into a museum. This famous poet arrived in Pondicherry in 1908 and composed some of his best known poems here. He was well known for introducing distinction and modernism in Tamil literature.
Many letters written by Subramanya Bharathi are present in the museum which also has a collection of over 20 photographs of the poet’s family and friends. Various books in different languages are also available, which tell about the poet’s interests. Different features of the poet’s life are reflected by the museum from the hand written verses that are preserved here.
For the tourists who are interested in poetry, Bharathiyar is a place to visit. This museum was opened to the visitors in 1993, after undergoing some renovation and is regarded as a pilgrimage place for the residents of Tamil Nadu.
