Location: Rohtang Pass is located on the eastern Pir Panjal range of Himalayan region, which is around 51 km or 32 miles away from Manali, Himachal Pradesh.
Description: Rohtang La Pass is a high mountain pass which is located at an altitude of 3,978 m. This mountain pass is considered as the gateway to Lahaul-Spiti, Pangi and Leh valley. On the highway to Keylong, this beautiful place offers a magnificent panorama of beautiful mountain landscapes. The huge glaciers, high cliffs and deep valleys create beautiful scenery all together which is worth watching. Sonepani Glacier and the snow covered Geyphang are the twin peaks that can be viewed from Rohtang La Pass. This pass is a natural split between Kullu valley with Hindu traditions and Lahaul and Spiti with Buddhist traditions. Rohtang Pass La is the main trade route for local people who are getting business by the import and export of fruits like apple, pear and plums being grown in their orchards. The holy river Beas flows down to the southern side, whereas the Chenab River flows down in the north side of the Rohtang Pass. The mesmerizing bird’s eye view of dense green forests, curved mountains, clouds and thin roads cutting the peaks seems to be a beautiful picture which the almighty has colored with his own hands.
Activities: Rohtang La pass remains open for tourists from the month of May to November every year, although trekking enthusiasts may visit this place before the mentioned time period as well, depending on weather conditions.
