Kudroli Gokarnath Temple was founded in the year 1912 and is one the most important and most visited temples of the Mangalore city. The temple of Sri Gokarnanatheshwara was built by the famous saint and social reformer of the state of Kerala, called Sri Narayana Guru and is the only temple of the Guru. Narayana Guru led the task of installing this temple for the Billava community, as they were not allowed to worship in other temples prevailing at the time.
Lord Shiva is the main deity worshiped in the temple of Gokarnanatheshwara. This prime temple is enclosed with other smaller temples devoted to Subramanya, Navagraha, Mahaganapathi, Anandabhairava, Shaneeshwara and Annapoorneswari. Murals showcasing scenes from legends, epics and mythology, depicting various gods and goddesses, add to the beauty of the four Gopuras and pillars of the temple. The temple reflects the style of Tamil Nadu.
Navaratri and Shivratri are celebrated with joy and to enhance, as well as preserve, the charm of this magnificent temple renovation was done recently.
