Description: Keshav Dev Temple is also popular by the name Kesava Deo Temple in India. This temple is located besides the main Krishna Janmabhoomi complex. Keshav Dev is the primary deity of this temple. There is a great mystery behind the destruction and construction of this temple. It is said that the original deity was installed here about 5,000 years ago by Vajranabha who was the great grandson of Lord Krishna. The Keshav Dev Temple is built over a prison cell, which is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna. An inscription on a stone slab found in this temple says that it was built by Jajja in Vikarama Samvat around 1150 AD. This temple was destructed by Sikander Lodhi in 16th century and the fourth temple is believed to be built by Raja Vir Singh Bundela of Orchaa in Jahangir’s Empire and again destructed by the orders of Aurangzeb. The existing temple is built by Birla and Dalmia family and due to their efforts this temple was finally completed in the year 1965, with an estimated cost of around 15 million.
