Description: Janamsthan is one of the most religious temples in Mathura city. Janamsthan in Mathura is also known as Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi. As Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi name defines, this temple is the birth place of Lord Krishna. According to Hindu epic Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna took birth in a prison known as Garbha Griha. God said in a prophecy that the eighth son of Devaki will become the destroyer of her brother Kansa. Due to this reason, cruel King Kansa kept Devaki and her husband Vasudeva in the prison. On the midnight on Ashtami, the divine baby “Krishna”, who was an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, took birth in prison. Krishna in teenage killed Kansa and relieved the city from the evil of Kansa. The structures and sculptures belonging to bygone era are kept in this place. The prison is now converted into a beautiful temple and visited by the devotees of Lord Krishna throughout the year.
