Description: Kukkarahalli Lake is a historic lake created by King Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar for irrigation purposes during Hoysala Dynasty. In early days, this lake was the main source of water supply for whole of the city. Bird watchers are most welcome for bird watching at this lake, as it is rich in treasure of birdlife and many distinctive species of birds can be seen around the lake, such as Spot-billed pelicans, Little Cormorant, Painted Storks, Open bill Storks, Eurasian spoonbills, Black-crowned night Herons and Oriental Darters. Due to the influence of birdlife on this lake, Birdlife International has added it to the topmost important bird areas of Karnataka state. Visitors may also visit this place at the time of arrival, because this lake is located about 15 km away from Mysore airport and just 3 km from the railway station. This is an isolated and undisturbed lake where you can enjoy viewing wild flowers, weed flowers and wild passion flowers.
