Location: Rail Museum or Railway Museum in Mysore is an outdoor exhibit to experience the real grandeur of vintage locomotives. The museum is located on Krishna Raja Sagar Road and it is opposite the Central Food Technology and Research Institute.
Description: Rail Museum was established by Indian Railways in the year 1979. The gallery of the museum houses photographs and paintings depicting the development of railways in India. To enhance the visual effects, railway signals and lights are displayed in the museum. Small children can enjoy a wonderful drive in a battery-operated mini-train of museum. Austin Railway Car, an automobile made for running on road is the only one of its kind in the world and is still in running condition. It is said that a railway employee fitted rail wheels in this car and used it as a railcar. The museum has preserved a number of steam locomotives, which are a major attraction of this museum. YP2511, a meter gauge steam engine and Wagnell 119- ER, narrow gauge steam engine placed in this museum make it one of the most comprehensive collections of railway history in entire India.
