Description: Folklore museum provides visitors with an enriching and captivating experience of the history of Karnataka art from medieval period. This museum displays various arts and crafts of Karnataka. It is an exhibition center for the display of precious elements of music, dance and drama. In the year 1968, this museum was founded and since that time the University of Mysore is contributing to the study of folklore. P.R. Thippeswamy, Javergowda and Jessham are some great scholars who helped in enhancing the importance of this museum by adding artifacts from all over Karnataka. This museum exhibits a valuable and vast collection of unique items. The museum’s gallery is divided in two parts for folklore, large dolls, folk life, literature and art. Various costumes of folk dance forms, like Kathakali and Yaskshagana, which is a theatrical style resembling Western Opera of state Karnataka are also displayed here. Folk musical instruments installed in this museum include string, percussion and wind instruments. In addition to this, this museum is rich in collection of village deities like Soma and Butha.
