Shevaroy Temple

Location: Shevaroy Temple is located on the highest point present in the city of Yercaud. This famous temple is located at a height of about 5326 feet.

Description: The main deity of Shevaroy temple is Lord Shevaroyan, worshiped by tribal people of the region. This temple can be best described as narrow and dark caves which are adorned by idols of Goddess Kaveri and Lord Shevaroyan. These idols represent the Kaveri River and the Shevaroy hills, respectively. It is a common belief among people residing in the area that Lord Servarayan guards the 67 villages which are present in and around the city of Yercaud. Every year, in the month of May, a festival is celebrated with huge pomp and show by the tribal people in the praise of the lord. Lush green hills make a perfect backdrop of the temple. While standing on the hill tourists can have a bird’s eye view of the city.

Activities: After paying respect to the lord, tourists can visit different places which lie in the proximity of the temple. Travelers who love to spend their time amidst nature can mark a visit to the botanical garden and view some of the beautiful and endangered species of orchids.
