Ramkund is situated in the sacred river Godavari. This is famously known as the 'Ganges' of the south. This place of pilgrimage attracts countless visitors to it each year. There is a belief that Lord Ram used to have his bath there during his exile period. Devotees frequently come here to have a holy dip in the river. Chitrarao Khatarkar built a holy tank on this spot, where it was believed that Rama and Sita took their bath, in the year 1696.
Devotees gather here to plunge their beloved’s ashes into the river with the strong belief that it will help the dead attain salvation. It is one of the most alluring picnic spots in the area. At Ramkund, the Godavari River takes a 90 degree bend and that spot is considered as the holiest by the pilgrims.
