Location: Situated in the temple town of Puri, Gundicha Temple is a Hindu temple in the state of Orissa, India. It is located at a distance of 3 km from the Shrimandira, a popular temple of Lord Jagannath.
Description: Being located in the middle of a beautiful garden, Gundicha Tempe is also famous as Garden House of Jagannath. The main deities of the Gundicha Temple are Lord Jagannath, his brother Lord Balabhadra and Sister Goddess Subhadra. The temple is made from light-grey sandstone using Kalinga temple architecture style. One can see four components in the temple, Vimana, Jagamohana, Nata-mandapa and Bhoga-mandapa. Located in a scenic garden setting, the temple is surrounded by walls from all sides. The most unique thing about this temple is that it remains empty for the whole year, except the ninth day of Rath Yatra when Lord Jagannath is worshipped here. Ratnavedi is a beautiful place in the shrine made of chlorite, where the deities are installed during the festival season. There are two gates in the temple. The western gate is from where deities enter the temple during the Rath Yatra. The eastern gate is used as the departure point.
Activities: The temple is significant due to the Rath (chariot) Yatra celebrated annually in the temple. The festival lasts for 9 days and celebrated with great pomp and show.
