Located in-between the Teesta and Mahananda rivers, Mahananda Weir Wildlife Sanctuary, is a vast stretch of land engulfed with lush green hilly terrains at the foot hills of the majestic Himalayan ranges. It is situated at a distance of 18 km from Siliguri.
Under the supervision of Darjeeling Government’s wildlife division, this place is regarded as one of the important sanctuaries that lie in West Bengal. Tourists can enjoy the visit to jungle or elephant safaris which are offered in this sanctuary. This sanctuary is considered as a natural habitat of wild flora and fauna. Dense bushes and trees line this place.
Animals which can be easily viewed in their natural dwellings are cheetal, fishing cat, tiger, barking deer and many other species of animals. Tourists can also view a variety of migratory birds which visit this park on regular basis.
