Description: The main deity of Gopishvar Mahadev Temple is Lord Gopishvar Mahadev, a form of Lord Shiva. According to a popular folklore associated with this temple says that Shiva was eager to see Raaslila. However, he was not allowed to do so and this disheartened him. Seeing his compassion Vrinda Devi allowed him to watch Raaslila by taking female form. When Shiva entered into Rasa Lila, Lord called his new gopi as Gopishvar. Due to this reason, the shrine is popularized as Gopishvar Mahadev Temple. Since that time, Vaishnava worships Lord Shiva prior to other deities for his compassion. The Shiva Lingam venerated in the shrine was said to be installed by Vajranabha, the great grandson of Lord Krishna. People take holy water of River Yamuna and bestow it on Lingam in this shrine.
