Description: Dating back to 18th century, Arki Fort was built by Rana Prithvi Singh, a descendant of Rana Sabha Chand, between 1800 and 1805. Later on in 1806, the Gurkha General Amar Singh Thapa used Arki as his citadel to make further advances into the entire Himachal Pradesh. Now modified as a Heritage Hotel, Arki Fort houses a treasure of exquisite paintings and has mural walls. Depicting Pahari style, a painting which adorns a wall of the fort is unique and a prime attraction for visitors as well. With a fascinated view, it presents an amalgam of Rajput and Mughal architecture of ancient period. Arki Fort is a private property of scions of Arki rulers and they still reside in one portion of the fort. Though the fort is old, but it has still maintained its royal elegance and princely status. Interior and exterior ornamented with splendid art make it a must visit place while you are in Shimla.
