Location: The Namgyal Tsemo Gompa lies in the northern India and it is located on the top of the Namgyal hill in the city of Leh, Ladakh.
Description: Namgyal Tsemo Gompa is a Buddhist monastery which was founded by King Tashi Namgyal in the year 1430, during the Namgyal dynasty. This Buddhist monastery houses a three storey high gold idol of Maitreya Buddha, also popular as Laughing Buddha, along with a statue of Avalokitesvara and Manjushri. This gold statue is 13.7 meter in height. There is a great collection of ancient manuscripts and wall paintings of medieval period in this monastery. This Gompa is open only during the morning and evening time, when the monks open the doors of monastery to worship. It is believed that the central deity of this monastery can cure infertility in women and due to this reason many women come to visit this Buddhist temple from near and far. This beautiful monastery is made from stones, sand and wood. From the top of this Buddhist monastery tourists can enjoy the magnificent view of the Leh city.
Activities: During the day and evening time the visitors can enjoy the breathtaking view of the gold statue and the great architectural work on the murals, along with observing the monks performing their daily rituals.
