Location: The Buddhist white domed Stupa or the Shanti Stupa, is located on the top of a steep hill in Chanspa at an altitude of 13,999 ft, in the Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir. This Stupa is well connected by road and can also be reached easily on foot by covering a flight of 500 steps.
Description: Constructed by Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura, a Japanese Buddhist, in the year 1991 Shanti Stupa holds artifacts related to Buddha at its base. This shrine has become famous amongst the tourists because of its religious significance, along with its beautiful surroundings. This place was built for the promotion of world peace and prosperity and it is regarded as a symbol of ties between the residents of Ladakh and Japan. This is a two level structure that is decorated with the photographs of current Dalai Lama. Both the levels are adorned with a series of Buddha reliefs.
