Tapkeshwar Temple,

Tapkeshwar Temple

It is a well known temple in Dehradun, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located on the banks of a river this temple is considered as one of the most visited pilgrimage centers in Dehradun. Water of the river pierces into the cave and drops of water from the cave get poured on Shiva Linga which presents a nice view and provides ethereal warmth to the eyes of the onlookers. The temple attained the name Tapkeshwar because of the dribbling of water over the deity that happens naturally from the cavern ceilings. The temple has cool springs containing sulphur that has a therapeutic effect. Water being good because of medicinal value makes it a popular spot for the pilgrims. ‘Guchhu Pani’ is one more name given to this cave temple and one can reach this temple after a walk of about 1 kilometer. Calmness of this temple provides a soothing effect to the tired pilgrims and darshan of the deity makes the devotees amazed. It is considered that Lord Shiva streamed milk to Ashwathama from this cave. The festival of Shivratri is celebrated with great fervor at this place.
