Location: Auroville is a popular universal township located in Viluppuram district of South Indian state Tamil Nadu. It is located at an approximate distance of 160 km in the south of Chennai and 10 km north of Pondicherry town.
Description: Auroville is also famous by name City of Dawn all over the world. It was founded by Mirra Alfassa, also known as Mother, in the year 1968 and since those times thousands of tourists visit this place throughout the year. Auroville city was designed by architect Roger Anger and hence it is quite famous among archeologists. The aim behind the construction of Auroville city is to realize human unity. Around 5000 people and representatives of 124 nations on 28th February, 1968 gathered during the inauguration ceremony of this city. The growing city is divided into various zones. It has a peace area, residential zone, industrial zone, cultural zone and the green belt zone. The infrastructure of this city is worth watching. The Mantrimandir is the peace area, where the surface of the dome has been made using 56 kg of gold and also has a lake that creates an impression of calmness and serenity.
