Situated on the highest point in Bhopal - Arera mount, the temple gives a picture perfect view of Bhopal. Lakshmi Narayan Temple, which is also famous as Birla Mandir, houses an idol of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu, who are worshiped here.
The temple is constructed in the honor of these two deities, where Goddess Lakshmi symbolizes divinity of wealth and her divine companion Vishnu or Narayan is a protector of the Universe. Apart from this there are other resplendent icons of Shiva–Parvati within its premises.
It was built by the leading industrialist family, Birla, because of which it came to be known as Birla Mandir. The tranquil ambiance of the shrine gives a spiritual comfort to devotees. The use of sandy-yellowish stone architecture, magnificent archway and beautiful lawns in its surroundings add to its picturesque appeal. For tourists there is a museum in its vicinity which has a huge collection of sculptures from Sehore, Shahdol, Mandsour and Raisen region and a small range of terracotta items, which is worth watching.
