Goa has gracefully embraced its century’s old historical and religious significance in the form of numerous chapels and churches, which are an integral part of its rich legacy and lure travelers from near and far. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, located in Old Goa, is one such monument which elegantly depicts the grandeur of bygone eras. Situated on a hilltop, overlooking Se Cathedral, this church is believed to be constructed in 1510 by Alfonso de Albuquerque after conquering Goa. Since then it has gone through several renovations, before its building was enlarged in 2000. Beautifully laid steps of stone take you to the main entrance of the church, which also has a school for providing education from primary to higher secondary level. This church might not be included in the most astonishing architectural wonders of Goa, but is widely appreciated for the panoramic views it presents, besides the tranquil and serene ambiance.
