Location: Located on the Palace Road in the south of Jodhpur city, the famous Umaid Bhawan Palacewas built by Maharaja Umaid Singh in the year 1944 and it is considered to be one of the last palaces that were constructed in India.
Description: Maharaja Umaid Singh had a special taste for the western style of living and this palace was constructed to match his taste as the architectural design of this palace is distinctly western. Services of an English architect were taken to build this palace, whose name was Henry Vaughn. Though the kings nowadays do not have any constitutional power, still they enjoy the same royal lifestyle in these grand palaces. Today almost half part of this palace has been transformed into a hotel and the other half has been changed into a museum. This palace is an example of the art that existed during bygone era. It also shows the radical change that the Indian culture was undergoing at that time.
Activities: Tourists can visit this palace, which now comprises of two sections, a hotel as well as a museum. They can stay in the hotel and enjoy the comforts and world class facilities or they can visit the museum which holds a treasure of ancient items.
