Location: Jaswant Thada is situated to the left of Mehrangarh Fort complex in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. This is a cenotaph constructed in the memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II by his son Maharaja Sardar Singh. It has three more tombs inside it and three other cenotaphs can be seen near it, along with a royal crematorium situated nearby.
Description: A well known place, Jaswant Thada is a good example of architectural prowess that prevailed in the Indian subcontinent. It is a monument that has been constructed with intricately carved white marble. Artistic talent of the sculptors is revealed by the carvings that have been done here. The stones are finely polished and are very thin. Due to this reason the outer surface of this memorial radiates a warm glow when sun rays fall on its surface. The cenotaph has wonderful jali work done on it. From the terrace of this cenotaph you can have a picturesque view of the surroundings. This cenotaph houses a number of portraits of the kings of Jodhpur. Main portion of this monument has been constructed in such a way that it appears like a temple.
